Our Story

Transforming East Africa's Harvests Into Premium, Life-Giving Nutrition

Founded in 2020 in Kenya, Upwell F&B Co. Ltd. was born from a simple conviction: the richest soils in East Africa should nourish the people who farm them. We set out to build Africa's leading climate-smart food and beverage company — one that closes the gap between agricultural abundance and nutritional need.

From our headquarters in Migori and our Nairobi center, we develop proprietary fortified food products using local superfoods, blockchain-backed traceability, and regenerative farming partnerships with over 5,000 smallholder farmers across Kenya and East Africa.

The Road Ahead

Our 2026–2031 Strategy

Three phases built to scale impact — from local pilot to East African leadership.

1

Foundation & Pilot Scale

2026–2027

Finalize 10 fortified product formulations, onboard the first 1,500 smallholder farmers onto regenerative practices, establish our first manufacturing hub with cold-chain capacity, and launch pilot distribution in Kenyan schools, hospitals, and retail.

2

Expansion & Regional Rollout

2028–2029

Scale to 5,000 farmers across Uganda, Tanzania, and Rwanda. Open 2 additional regional manufacturing hubs, activate diaspora e-commerce channels in Europe and North America, and secure 30+ institutional contracts.

3

Consolidation & Optimisation

2030–2031

Achieve full B Corp certification, 100% ESG compliance, 50+ institutional contracts, and KES 1.86 billion revenue. Carbon credit monetisation live, and 1M+ people nourished each year through all three regional hubs.

The Heart of the Harvest

Meet Our Community

At Upwell, we don't see a supply chain ,we see a community of resilient, skilled individuals who are the true guardians of East African agriculture.

Farmer Partnership

5,000 Farmers. One Shared Future.

We intentionally partner with smallholder farmers , placing a specific focus on women and youth, to create sustainable employment and reliable markets. By moving beyond traditional middleman models, Upwell builds direct, transparent relationships that ensure the value created from the soil stays in the hands of those who till it.

Through our Value Addition Farmer (VAF) Programme, each farmer receives training in regenerative agriculture, digital onboarding onto our blockchain traceability platform, access to fair and guaranteed purchase pricing, and performance-linked income growth pathways.
